"Great services as an open door"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Sligo Child and Adolescent Community Mental Health Services

(as a parent/guardian),

CAMHS Sligo:

In August 2023 my adolescent daughter was referred to and seen by CAMHS in Sligo.  I can't express how chaotic, stressful and difficult life was for her, for me and her sibling.  From her very first appointment both she and I were met with the utmost professionalism, kindness and empathy - from the ladies on CAMHS reception to Siobhan (CNS), Joanne, Dr Mohammed and now Jane.  The support provided to my daughter but also to myself has been invaluable, there was someone on the end of a phone, their door was open and we never felt like a burden on the system.  There was no stigma, simply a safe space for us with the help needed and this has been instrumental in what is and will be a journey but it has saved her life, improved her life and our homelife and helps us navigate through the challenging and difficult times for her.  Your collective efforts and your work is appreciated and we are incredibly grateful to have these services in our locality.  Thank you.

Family Connections Programme, Sligo:

Through CAMHS I was offered a place on a FC programme in Sligo last Autumn.  Prior to commencing the programme Jane contacted me and gave me an in depth overview of what the programme involved and what commitment was required from my end.  The FC programme has taught me invaluable skills and empowered me to improve and repair my relationship with my daughter.  There's no doubt that the FC programme has changed our lives for the better - chaos is reduced, our mum-daughter relationship is improved, our home is a happier home - we still have our challenges and we are on a journey, I often refer back to the resources provided from the FC facilitators to remind/refresh myself but I have those skills now and I have that knowledge and I know how to react in a much gentler kinder way to meet my daughters' needs.  My daughter is at an age where she acknowledges and appreciates the support of me attending the programme - it's important to her to see that I also needed some support/help and I wanted to help her in any way I could - we share some of the skills and tools learnt and it's good to have that shared language again.  Thank you sincerely again to Jane, Mairead, Regina and Arya.  I've no doubt having the FC programme available in the area will help so many other families on their journey.
